A diesel-like fuel, pyrodiesel (PD), was synthesized by a pyrolysis method using soybean oil as starting material. Some physical properties of the material were studied, both neat and in blends with high-sulfur (HSD) and low-sulfur (LSD) diesel fuels, and compared with blends of biodiesel (BD) in fossil fuels. It was observed using different methods that the lubricity of biobased fuels obtained after the transesterification or pyrolysis of soybean oil is superior to LSD and HSD and also that the lubricity of diesel fuels are enhanced when either BD or PD are added. Based on the results reported herein, PD is a viable alternative to BD for use in compression-ignition engines. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The Impact of Bioesters on Lubricity of Diesel Fuels
The paper discusses the influence of two fatty acid methyl esters (bioesters) derived from soybean oil (SME) and from rapeseed oil (RME) on the lubricity of the petroleum diesel fuels: Ekodiesel (S:26 mg/kg, HFRR: 555 m) and Citydiesel (S: 8 mg/kg, HFRR: 617 m). High-frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR) equipment was used to examine diesel fuels, neat bioesters and blends containing from 0,1 % up...

Biofuels are playing important role in recent decades as substitutes for petro diesel. Biodiesel derived from vegetable oils are found to give comparable performance and emission characteristics. In this paper a comparative study has been done between two fuels combinations i.e. jatropha and castor. The biodiesel was prepared from neat oils and blends of biodiesel (up till 20%) were prepared...

The production of synthetic fuels from alternative sources has increased in recent years as a cleaner, more sustainable source of transport fuel is now required. The European Commission has outlined renewable energy targets pertaining to transport fuel which must be met by 2020. In response to these targets Ireland has committed, through the Biofuels Obligation Scheme of 2008, to producing 3% o...
